Kingston, NY

A 100-year-old free library originally funded by Andrew Carnegie, the building sat vacant for 30 years when the Kingston School District acquired it from the city. Today it is a fully renovated space that meets the needs of high school students during the day, and in the evening serves as home to the Center for Creative Education’s dance, art and wellness program for low-income and at-risk youth. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building’s interior and exterior went under much review and a watchful eye as the original character and craftsmanship were showcased. In addition, through the complete renovation of the building, the project achieved LEED Silver in the LEED for schools category.
